SimpleSYN will display this message of the Windows® Firewall is active and blocking the SimpleSYN server. No synchronization is possible.
The SimpleSYN server requires the following firewall exceptions:
- Unsolicited inbound network traffic for TCP Port 9234 must be allowed in the default setting
- For synchronization over the Internet Windows® Vista / Windows® 7 must additionally allow edge traversal
How to manually configure Windows® Firewall for the SimpleSYN server
Windows XP
- Open the control panel over „Start > Control Panel“
- Click on “Network- and Internet Connectivity“
- Click on “Change Windows Firewall Settings“
- Make sure that the check box “Don`t allow exceptions“ is not checked
- Click on “Exceptions"
- Click on “Add Program…“, to add SimpleSYN to the list of allowed programs
- In the dialog box “Add Program“ click on “Search…“
- Choose the SimpleSYN application file “CBN.SimpleSYN.NET.exe“ In the default setting this is installed to “C:\Program Files\creativbox.net\SimpleSYN 2.1“. You chose the installation directory during the SimpleSYN installation. Click on “Open"
- Confirm the dialog “Add program“ with “OK“
- Click on “OK“ to confirm the changes
Windows Vista
SimpleSYN registers the necessary changes to the Windows Firewall rules during installation, but only activates them in the private network profile. The altered rules are not automatically activated in any other network profiles for security reasons.
Proceed as follows to activate the firewall rules for SimpleSYN under Windows® Vista:
- Open the control panel over “Start > Control Panel"
- Click on “Security“
- Click on “Windows Firewall“
- Click on “Change Settings“
- Make sure that the Windows Firewall is activated
- Deactivate the check box “Block all incoming connections“
- Click on “Exceptions“
- Search for the entry “SimpleSYN Service“, or “SimpleSYN Service (Internet Sync)“, if you have synchronization via the Internet activated, and activate the check box
- Confirm the changes by clicking “OK“

Windows 7
SimpleSYN registers the necessary changes to the Windows Firewall rules during installation, but only activates them in the private network profile. The altered rules are not automatically activated in any of the other network profiles for security reasons.
Proceed as follows to activate the firewall rules for SimpleSYN under Windows® 7:
- Open the control panel over “Start > Control Panel“
- Click on “System and Security“
- Click on “Windows Firewall“
- Make sure that the Windows Firewall is activated in the active network
- Click left on “Advanced Settings“
- Click on “Inbound Rules“
- Search for the entry “SimpleSYN Service“, or “SimpleSYN Service (Internet Sync)“, if you have synchronization via the Internet activated, along with the Group name and the required network profile in the column “Profile“
- Activate the required firewall rules. To do so click right on “Enable Rule“
- To ensure a smooth operation make sure that the firewall rules are activated for the group “Core Networking“
