Security is for SimpleSYN of particular importance. SimpleSYN is a client-/ server application, which means: At least the server has to be accessible from other computers.
Authorization
You can configure SimpleSYN in a way that only authorized users can do a synchronization. The authorization here is based on local- or domain users. To activate the authorization you have to assign configurations on the SimpleSYN server page to the respective users. SimpleSYN also uses here the expression “Users” but internally these are configurations that are allocated to Windows users.
In the standard setup SimpleSYN uses the configuration for all users, which means that no authorization is taking place. To use the authorization you have to deactivate or delete the standard configuration.
Configuration of the Security Settings
To activate the SimpleSYN encryption the following preconditions have to be fulfilled:
- The server computer needs for the encryption at least Wimdows XP Professional or Windows Vista starting from the version “Home Premium”.
- For Windows XP Prof. the simple file sharing has to be deactivated: You will find this option under: Windows Explorer > Extras > folder options > view > advanced settings. The checkbox at “Use simple file sharing (recommended)" has to be deactivated.
- The Windows user account on the server must have a password. If all these preconditions are fulfilled the configuration wizard tries automatically to activate the encryption.

With SimpleSYN you can assign several configurations to different users to restrict , for example, a folder to particular users. In that way your colleague from work will receive, for example, the new appointments and tasks but not the e-mails that are of no importance for his work
Please click on the menu button
Synchronization settings "Administrate users". In this window you can add any local or domain user and admisistrate them separately.
Via the link “Add users” you can add further Windows users. A context menu will give you further options. Here you may deactivate, add, change or delete users and you can also set up the entry “All users” again, in case it was deleted earlier.

Hint: As soon as a user’s account was added by you and as soon as a standard configuration for all users was deactivated or deleted, an automatical authorization of the clients will take place.
| 2. Setting for the client |
Call up the menu button
Options click on “Advanced options” and go to the section “Security settings”.Activate the point “Activate encryption”.
Enter in the three fields User name, Password and Domain the local user account which is supposed to be used on the server for the authentication. For the local user account the field domain is the name of the computer.
In a workgroup, respectively outside an Active Directory, the chosen user account on the server has to be known. This means that either both computers must have the same user account with the same password or a Windows user account of the server must be stated on the client having sufficient authorization.
In case of an inaccurate Authentication the SimpleSYN client will report this to you through a hint in the taskbar:
“SimpleSYN could not establish a connection to the current server. The authentication failed. Click on this announcement to check up on your authentication settings”.
In this case please check your account settings.
Hint: The Windows user account must have a password.
